Annabel club
The Annabel club based in Rotterdam (NL) was looking for a brand identity, for their techno music events called "Contrast".
Literally, a contrast is the most extreme difference between two given values. It also conveys the idea of straightforwardness, strong visual impact and boldness. Their visual identity should therefore embody those assets, and represent the techno music experience through graphic design.
The concept I developed takes roots in the op art and the Italian futurism movements, both trying to translate movement and retinal persistence through images. For instance, the light alteration within nightclubs is closely related to electronic music assets (repetition, rhythm, patterns, etc.) and already expresses the idea of contrast.
To contrast with the bold visuals, the identity references a modernist design, with a will for organisation and simplicity. This is manifested through a stiff use of the text grid, flat colors and minimalist layouts. It creates a contrast between a finely organized display of information and a dynamic visual.
